ABSTRACT

Tourism has a substantial impact on the economy of different regions of the world such as Latin America, however due to the health crisis generated by COVID-19 this sector has been one of the most affected, for this reason, different investigations have been carried out focused on solving the problems generated by the pandemic. Therefore, it has become necessary to implement new technological alternatives that allow promoting alternative tourism;for example, take virtual tours of different tourist attractions with the help of virtual or augmented reality. In this article we present a proposal for a virtual reality application focused on promoting tourism in Peru using a user-centered design. To make this proposal, an analysis of tourism in Peru was carried out, analyzing the impact of the pandemic in Peru and the most visited attractions in the city of Arequipa to select the scenarios to be virtualized. An important aspect of the proposed is the creation of a user-centered design, for which a set of functions focused on users was proposed, such as the use of a map to select the tourist attractions to visit, showing updated information of the tourist attractions, the use of multiple methods of movement in virtual reality environments and a camera that allows taking pictures when navigating the virtual scenario. © 2022, Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

ABSTRACT

The different versions of the project fair of the Professional School of Systems Engineering of the University of San Agustín de Arequipa seek to disseminate the work developed by the students of the different academic semesters, the experience described in this document aims to describe the evolution Of the project fairs, including the first virtual fair due to the situation generated by the Covid-19 pandemic, a descriptive method based on time was used with the main activities developed, the evolution of the project fair has allowed identifying possible improvements that are have been implementing and others that will be considered for future versions, although this event is currently being carried out on a mandatory basis in control courses and CAPSTONE, it is expected that more courses will join this initiative since their participation is not mandatory, involving external actors in the role of juries brings with it a different vision of what has been working in the career and that could be improved, the current situation of virtuality has made all professionals adapt to the new realities, events such as the project fair must continue to evolve and improve as a strategy of the teaching-learning process, these evidence generated will be used in order to achieve accreditation under ABET guidelines, the results obtained at the fair can serve as proposals to solve problems of society. © 2021 Latin American and Caribbean Consortium of Engineering Institutions.
